Swett volleyball edges out Lumberton

LUMBERTON — The Purnell Swett volleyball team defeated rival Lumberton in five sets on Thursday, improving to 2-3 in Southeastern Conference play.

The Rams lost the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-19, before reeling off three straight wins to claim the match. Lumberton’s London Thompson had 14 kills in a losing effort, with Trinity McBryde adding eight.

Fairmont sweeps St. Pauls

ST. PAULS — The Fairmont volleyball team claimed a three-set victory over St. Pauls on Thursday, improving to 6-1 in Three Rivers Conference play.

The Golden Tornadoes won 25-14, 25-15 and 25-20 to earn the victory. Mackenzie Johnson tallied 17 assists, 10 service points and four digs to lead Fairmont, with Kirshay Moore adding 13 service points and five assists. Emma McMillan contributed 12 service points and four aces, with Maya Bellamy adding 11 kills.

St. Pauls is still seeking its first win of the season.
