Pirates win thriller at Scotland

LAURINBURG — Behind a hat trick from Christian Santos, including the go-ahead goal, the Lumberton boys soccer team claimed a 5-4 comeback win at Scotland on Monday.

The Pirates trailed 3-1 with 20 minutes left in the contest, but rallied with three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead with late in the contest. The Scots would tie it on a free kick, but Santos rounded out his hat trick with a goal at the 3:37 mark to lift Lumberton to victory.

Noah Taylor and Elmer Mauricio netted one goal each for the Pirates, with Abiasi Moreno and C.J. Nemeroff adding a pair of assists each and Nate Cribb tallying one.

Bulldogs stay perfect in TRC play

ST. PAULS — The St. Pauls boys soccer team used a pair of first-half goals to jump on South Columbus early en route to a 3-2 win.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in Three Rivers Conference play, with Alexis Mendez tallying one goal and a pair of assists to lead the way. Franky Velazquez and Victor Garcia added one goal each for St. Pauls, with Richie Flores adding an assist.

Fairmont volleyball tops Lumberton

LUMBERTON — The Fairmont volleyball team claimed a five-set victory at Lumberton on Monday, improving to 10-1 on the season.

The Golden Tornadoes lost the first set 25-19, won 25-23 and 25-20, lost 25-17 and won 15-10 to claim the match.

MacKenzie Johnson tallied 16 service points, 12 assists and five aces to lead Fairmont, with Emma McMillan adding 10 service points. Maya Bellamy and Kiara Page contributed eight kills each, with Bellamy also tallying five blocks.

In middle school action, Fairmont beat Rowland in three sets, winning 25-10, 25-10 and 25-15. Rowland lost to Orrum 38-0 in football.
