Local Roundup: Caulder helps Bulldogs stay perfect

ELIZABETHTOWN — Dawson Caulder picked up the win on the mound and logged three RBIs for the St. Pauls baseball team on Wednesday night, leading the Bulldogs to a 14-8 victory at East Bladen.

Connor Harris and Trevan Locklear also logged three RBIs each for the Bulldogs (5-0), who won their fifth consecutive game to start the season. Ted McNeill and J.J. Oxendine had two hits each for St. Pauls, with Jeremiah Locklear adding an RBI and logging the save in relief.

Oxendine also had three stolen bases in the win.

Lady Rams rout South Robeson

PEMBROKE — The Purnell Swett softball team scored in four consecutive innings en route to earning a 12-2 win over county rival South Robeson on Wednesday.

Desaree Dunham and Kaitlyn Hunt notched two hits each for the Lady Rams (2-3), who scored three runs each in the second and third innings before a four-run fifth inning put the game out of reach.

JaiLeana Deese picked up her second win of the season in the pitcher’s circle, striking out eight batters.

Haeli Chavis logged a trio of hits to led the Lady Mustangs (1-2), who scored both of their runs in the fifth inning.

In baseball, Purnell Swett dropped a 9-0 game at Terry Sanford and Lumberton fell 6-1 at home to South View.

Lumberton, Red Springs soccer teams lose

LUMBERTON — The Lumberton soccer team dropped a 3-1 contest to West Brunswick on Wednesday, with Red Springs losing 6-1 to East Bladen.

Madison Sirmans netted the goal for the Lady Pirates, who fell behind 2-0 at the half. Wendy Molina scored the lone goal for the Red Devils, with Gabrielle Pecina logging 15 saves in goal.
