Lumberton softball pummels Pine Forest

LUMBERTON — After picking up a lopsided win over Pine Forest last week, the Lumberton softball team swept the season series over the Lady Trojans with a 14-0 win at home on Wednesday.

Lumberton (4-2) scored 10 runs in the first inning to cruise in commanding fashion, while Morgan Britt was in control pitching over the first two innings.

Madison Canady went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, while Britt and Rachel O’Neil had a two hits and a double apiece. Lindsay Bridgeman had one hit and one RBI.

Jessica Wiles and Hannah West each had a hit for Pine Forest.

Rams comes back to top Marlboro County

PEMBROKE — The Purnell Swett baseball teamed got out of a one-run hole late in the game to defeat Marlboro County 7-6 at home on Wednesday.

After going down 6-5 in the middle of the fifth inning, the Rams scored one run each in the fifth and sixth innings to come away with the win.

Darrick Locklear had a hit and two RBIs for Purnell Swett, while McKinley Strickland, Dakota Locklear, Ryan Graham, Braydon Scott and Ethan Chavis each added a RBI. Scott had a team-high two hits.

Chavis struck out nine in his four innings to start and was relieved by Strickland, who struck out four in his three innings.

Purnell Swett topples South Robeson

ROWLAND — The Purnell Swett softball team earned a 8-1 win at South Robeson on Wednesday.

JaiLeana Deese had a double and a triple to score two runs for the Lady Rams. Hunter Bullard added two hits and an RBI, while Kaitlyn Jones and Magan Barton each had a hit and an RBI.

South Robeson was led by Jennifer Lambert with two hits and an RBI.

Trojans shutout Lumberton baseball

LUMBERTON — Pine Forest pitcher Caleb Ryan held the Lumberton baseball team in check to pick up a 6-0 win in Lumberton on Wednesday.

Tyler Jacobs, Seth Odum and Caleb Wilkerson had two hits each and Kris Allen and Brandon Norris added a hit each.
