An annual gift of $500 from the Lumberton Rotary Club is the largest of four new gifts for the Empty Stocking Fund.

As always we appreciate the generosity of the Rotarians and hope other civic groups will follow their lead.

The four gifts combined add a total of $750 to the fund, pushing its total to an even $4,300. In addition, all four gifts, like the 16 before them, will each be matched with a $50 gift from an anonymous benefactor.

We don’t know with certainty how many children will be deemed eligible to receive help from the Fund, but we do know that it looks to be more than were served last year when we raised a record amount of money and were able to serve them all. So this will be a challenging year if we are again to help all the children deemed eligible.

Please donate if you can.

Checks can be mailed to Empty Stocking Fund, 2175 Roberts Ave., Lumberton, N.C., 28358, or a donation can be delivered in person. As in the past, we will publish photographs with gifts of $500 or more when that request is made. To give yourself the best chance of that photograph appearing on page 1A, get your donation in early.

The vouchers can be redeemed at Roses, either the Lumberton store or the one in Fairmont. We will announce as soon as possible the number of children deemed eligible to receive vouchers.
