MAXTON — Two people have been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a Maxton Chinese restaurant, during which the owner was shot, according to the Maxton Police Department.

Jacquer Jones Gurley, 20, and Kareem Nasai Young, 21, were arrested without incident on Thursday for the Saturday night robbery at King Chef Chinese Restaurant. according to a statement from the Police Department.

Gurley, of Rowland, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was jailed at the Robeson County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond.

Young, of Maxton, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was jailed under a $50,000 secured bond.

Yi Liang Ni, the owner of the Patterson Street restaurant, was shot once in the arm and in the abdomen and was released from a hospital early Sunday morning, a hospital spokesperson said. The restaurant has been open as Ni recovers.

An undisclosed amount of money was stolen during the robbery.
