LUMBERTON — Two teenagers have been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a 23-year-old Lumberton man two days before Christmas.

Police say the murder of William Tart, formerly of Spearman Street, is gang-related.

Police Sgt. Howard Reaves said that Antonionez Johnson, 17, of McColumn Street, and Brandon Graham, 19, of N.C. 41 South, were arrested Tuesday at about 4:30 p.m. Both of the teens are charged with first-degree murder and assault and battery. They are being held at the Robeson County jail without bond.

The teens are accused of killing Tart on Dec. 23.

Reaves said the teens were arrested Tuesday shortly after police received an anonymous tip.

The tip was from a resident who spotted the teens walking around Turner Mobile Home Park, off of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Reaves said.

When police arrived, one of the teens was quickly apprehended and the second ran and hid inside of a mobile home. Reaves said police waited about 35 minutes before the teen walked out of the home and was arrested without incident.

Police believe Tart was shot and killed following an altercation involving several men that occurred on Inman Street, off of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Tart was found dead at the scene.

“We believe it is gang-related,” Reaves said.

Reaves said police are awaiting autopsy results from the Medical Examiner’s office in Chapel Hill to determine where Tart was shot and how many times.
