Shag lessons: The Lumberton Recreation Department will sponsor shag lessons starting Jan. 5, with additional classes on Jan. 12, 19 and 26. The classes will be located in the south end of the Pine Street Activity Center at the corner of 8th Street and Pine Street. Terrific Tuesday: The Gibson Cancer Center hosts a “Terrific Tuesday” event on the first Tuesday of each month to help patients and their family members feel more at ease during their visits to the Center. Tuesday, Jan. 6 from 9 a.m. until noon, there will be healthy refreshments, crafts, manicures, makeovers, hair cuts and chair massages to all patients of the Center and their family members. Theater volunteers: The Carolina Civic Center needs ushers, ticket takers, concession stand personnel and other volunteers to help manage the season of performances. Theater: The Burning Coal Theatre Company presents the play “Way to Heaven” by Juan Mayorga in Spanish and English at the Meymandi Theatre at the Murphey School in Raleigh. Bereavement Support Group: Designed to offer support to grieving persons who have experienced the loss of a loved one, will begin a new five-week session on Jan. 20. Support Group: The HealthKeeperz Hospice will start a grief support group which will be open to the public. Study program: The Power Hour/Homework Study Program for youth ages 6 to 18 will be held Monday through Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at 1310 N. Seneca St., Lumberton.
