Fire damages shelter

LUMBERTON — Fire gutted the bedroom of a homeless shelter in Lumberton on Friday morning, but no one was hurt. The call came in at 9:21 a.m. about the fire at Lumberton Christian Care at 305 E. First St. When Lumberton firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out a second floor window. Six adults were evacuated. Damage was estimated at $20,000. The cause is under investigation.
