LUMBERTON — State Auditor Beth A. Wood recently spoke to the Lumberton Rotary Club.
Wood is the first woman to be elected as auditor of North Carolina, which requires her to monitor the state’s use of taxpayer money.
She spoke briefly about the Single Audits, Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports published by her office and told participants how to access those reports on the OSA website, as well as Performance Audits. She also discussed tax fraud and abuse, and the types of investigations that would be conducted.
Wood put herself through college and earned an accounting degree from East Carolina University. She became a certified public accountant in 1987.
