LUMBERTON — Michael Currie, a Lumberton resident, has been named the Robeson County Church and Community Center’s volunteer of the month.
Currie has been picking up food once a month from Campbell Soup in Maxton and Second Harvest in Fayetteville for more than six years. He also collects donations from Mountaire Farms in Lumber Bridge and Food Lion Second Harvest in Fairmont.
FAIRMONT — Brooke Smith, a Fairmont resident, was recently awarded $100 from the town of Fairmont for being the Cash for Trash winner.
Smith enlisted other recyclers, bringing in 2,124 pounds of recyclable materials. Smith is the daughter of Scott and Tara Ivey.
Ruby Parker won second place with 1,355 pounds.
COLUMBUS, Ga. — Army Pvt. Josh B. Wiggins recently graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.
During nine weeks of training, he practiced drill and ceremonies, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid skills, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics.
Wiggins, who graduated from Lumberton High School in 2007, is the nephew of Lori Rozier of Lumberton.
