Artist Project

deadline nears

LUMBERTON — The application deadline for the North Carolina Arts Council Regional Artist Project is 5 p.m. on Oct. 3.

A free grant-writing workshop will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 at the Carolina Civic Center. Attendance is not required to submit an application, but is recommended for first-time applicants. The grants provide support to projects that will have a significant impact on the advancement of visual, performing, literary or inter-disciplinary artists’ careers, such as a creation of a new work, purchase of equipment, professional development workshops, travel to exhibitions or conferences, or development of promotional materials. Grants range from $500 to $3,000.

Applications are to be submitted to the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County at P.O. Box 318, Fayetteville, N.C. 28302-0318. To download an application, go to www.theartscouncil.com or call (910) 323-1776 for information.

Rotary club sells

raffle tickets

LUMBERTON — The Lumberton Rotary club is selling raffle tickets to raise money for the Rotary Foundation Polio Plus program.

Tickets are $25, $5 of which will stay with the local club. The winner of the raffle, which will be held the night of March 3, 2012, at the Rotary District 7730 Conference in Pinehurst, will receive a Ford Fusion Hybrid car.

National Night Out

will be Aug. 2

LUMBERTON — National Night Out will be celebrated in Fairmont and Lumberton on Tuesday.

In Lumberton from 8 to 11 p.m., there will be food, the DARE Band, swimming in the dowtown fountain, and a free showing of “The Chronicles of Narnia” on the big screen. For information, call (910) 671-3876.

Craft fair to be

held Oct. 13-14

LUMBERTON — The seventh annual Leapin’ Lizards craft fair will be held on Oct. 13 and Oct. 14 at First Presbyterian Church.

It will be from 5 to 8 p.m. the first day and from 3 to 8 p.m. the second day.

Food donations

requested

LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Church and Community Center is asking churches, businesses and residents to collect or donate food.

The center has seen an increase in the amount of requests for food boxes, and needs dry beans, cereal, rice, pastas, canned meat, fruit and juice.

9/11 tribute to be

held on Sept. 10

FAIRMONT — A 9/11 anniversary tribute parade will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 10 in Fairmont.

It will honor all of Robeson County first responders, law enforcement and 9/11 victims. At 11 a.m., there will be entertainment in Community Park.
