PEMBROKE — The 2011 Lumbee Tribal Fall Pow-Wow, which was scheduled for October, has been canceled.
The Lumbee Regional Development Association board of directors made the decision recently based on “the economic conditions faced by the agency,” according to a statement.
The association plans to bring back the annual event with some new activities and possibly a new location in the fall of 2012. The date has been set for Oct. 26 through 28, 2012.
According to a LRDA spokesperson, next year’s Spring Pow-Wow is still scheduled for May.
The Fall Pow-Was had been sponsored by the association for more than 35 years, but this isn’t the first time it was canceled. The event was also canceled in 2008, but reinstated the next year.
Attempts to reach LRDA officials on Friday for comment failed.
