Matthew Albert Miller, 24, of Bladenboro, has been charged with two counts of embezzlement of property received by virtue of office or employment, and two counts trafficking a schedule II controlled substance by possession, according the State Bureau of Investigation. He also is charged with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.
Bond was set at $8,000.
Agents from the State Bureau of Investigation arrested Miller on Monday at the police station, according to Lumberton Police Chief Michael McNeill, and that agency is handling the investigation.
Miller was hired with the Lumberton Police Department in July 2009, according to James Moore, Human Resources director for the city of Lumberton.
McNeill said that Miller would be disciplined but he did not have specifics this afternoon.
