To the Editor,

Washington, D.C. was built on a swamp, and the critters that thrive in such environments aren’t going to just leave on their own. We have to drain the swamp and remove the critters.

Simply having elections should ensure that we get rid of bad politicians in Washington. That’s what the framers of the Constitution thought.

They didn’t anticipate that eventually Congress would be filled with people who thought that it was a career. They had no way of knowing that special interests would eventually succeed in achieving a 90 percent rate of re-election for their incumbent “friends.”

But that’s exactly what has happened. And their friends are not our friends.

The special interests, and their career politician friends, are the people who have nearly bankrupted this country. Career politicians, by definition, will vote in a way that gets them re-elected, and too often that is not in the best interest of the people of the United States of America.

We have to put an end to career politicians before they put an end to this country.

Those who have made politics their career aren’t getting the job done, and now we face an existential threat to our nation, to our liberty, and to our way of life.

That’s why I signed a pledge to co-sponsor and vote for legislation that limits representatives to three terms and senators to two terms.

As a dentist and a business owner for more than 20 years, I’ve watched as career politicians in Washington have voted to enhance their careers instead of enhancing our economic situation, and I’ve had enough.

It’s time to drain the swamp.
