LUMBERTON — Harvey Burgess, a former reporter and columnist for The Robesonian ,will debut his new mystery novel at a book-signing on Friday at Biggs Park Mall.
Burgess, who also served as news director of WTSB Radio, editor of The Lumberton Post and editor of The Bladen Journal in Elizabethtown, is introducing a new “hard-boiled detective” to the mystery world in the form of ex-cop turned private eye Houston Cash, a colorful man with an interesting past and a wry sense of humor.
“My career as a reporter covering courts and crime, and as a deputy sheriff with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Department, gave me the kind of background I needed to delve into the world of crime fiction,” Burgess said. “I can think of no better place to introduce the world to ‘Kiss Her Goodbye’ than Lumberton.”
‘Kiss Her Goodbye’ centers around the kidnapping of two prominent women whose abductor is something of an enigma, and the story takes numerous twists and turns, some of them deadly, before reaching an explosive climax.
Burgess, who lives in Charlotte, plans to write a sequel.
