LUMBERTON — Authorities are looking for leads in an arson that significantly damaged a Lumberton home earlier this month.
According to sheriff’s Lt. Brian Duckworth, an arson investigator, the Allenton Fire Department responded to a fire at about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 at 8570 N.C. 211 in Lumberton.
The owner of the home, Bill Pittman Jr., rented the home out, but Duckworth said there was no one staying in it at the time of the fire.
Duckworth said the fire was deliberately set in the carport area of the one-story home with an accelerant. The damage to the carport and kitchen areas was estimated at $15,000 to $20,000, he said. Pittman did have structural insurance on the home, he said.
“I’ve got a couple of suspects. They’re dodging me, but I do have leads,” Duckworth said.
Two people who had previously rented the home were seen leaving it at the time of the fire, he said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at (910) c671-3100.
