STATESBORO, Ga. — A group of local residents will be traveling to Georgia to clean the historic Croatan Indian Memorial Cemetery from Nov. 11 to Nov. 13.

Participants will travel in their own vehicles and stay at the LaQuinta Inn, located at 225 Lanier Drive in Statesboro. The special rate code is Croatan Indian Cemetery Group. The reservation deadline is Nov. 7.

PEMBROKE — The inaugural UNCP Health Careers Club Dog Show will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in front of Livermore Library at UNCP.

Half of the proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life and half to the Health Careers Club Scholarship. The cost is $3 per category and $5 for the Best Six Legs category (dog and owner). Judging will be based on creativity, originality, presentation, and the general health of the dog. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. Owners are required to clean up after their dogs and keep them on leashes at all times.

LUMBERTON — Nominations are being accepted for the 2012 Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service until Nov. 11.

Each county selects five individuals, businesses, groups/teams and one director of volunteers to be recognized for contributions to their communities. One of the five recipients will be nominated to receive the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service. A local committee evaluates the nominations.

LUMBERTON — Kiwanis of Robeson-Lumberton is accepting applications for fund requests for the 2011-2012 year.

The deadline to apply is Wednesday. To request an application, send an email to the club at thekiwanisclub@gmail.com. Once the application is received it will be reviewed by the board committee during the monthly meeting. Applicants must be nonprofits that benefit the children of Robeson County.

The applicant will be notified if the application meets the Kiwanis of Robeson-Lumberton criteria by Dec. 7.

PEMBROKE — Cruisin’ Pembroke will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 12 on Main Street in Pembroke.

This year’s event will honor local firefighters and feature food, exhibits, entertainment and games.
