Former assistant teacher claims discrimination, unfair evaluation

To the Editor,

It is my belief that due to a poor performance appraisal, I was discriminated against, causing me to be one of the assistant teachers who was terminated. I requested a meeting with Mr. DeRay Cole, assistant superintendent of Human Resources with the Public Schools of Robeson County, but have not heard from him.

I have 22 years with Robeson County Schools as an assistant teacher, bus driver, teacher, and a substitute teacher.

It is hard for me to understand how my evaluation could be so awful as to keep me from being re-employed when I did everything requested of me, even when I had to shadow students that were so bad that the surpervisor did not assign them to the male assistants.

Who was let go and who was kept seems random at best.

The truth is that they'll be getting rid of all assistants in the next year or two.
