ELIZABETHTOWN — A 64-year-old St. Pauls man is accused of shooting his girlfriend in the lower left leg with a shotgun about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Bladen County sheriff’s report.
Albert Council, 64, of 91 Council Blvd., was arrested by deputies and placed in jail under a $150,500 secured bond. He was charged with assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
The incident reportedly occurred during an argument between Council and his long-time girlfriend, Peggy Kemp Bell, 54. Bell was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of the gunshot wound
The report said alcohol was a factor in the shooting.
