There is no such thing as race. It's just something man made up to divide and separate people and keep them pitted against each other. Looks like it worked.

@imdraco and marymary25, First whites are not the majority in this country, mexicans are out numbering whites followed up by blacks. As for taking land away from the idians, well I guess NO ONE but TRUE Indians would be here if whites had not come. Gods intensions was for Whites to settle in America. God Blessed this country. Be honest with yourselves, There are very few TRUE Idians around this area. As for jobs, communities, colleges, and schools catering to whites, please show me some. Do whites have White college funds, no because it would be racist, Blacks have a black college fund. Indians have their Indian tribe, we celebrate, black history, Indian history and now mexican history but when do we celebrate white history? Music industries are all about blacks, and successful companies might be owned by white skinned ppl but what is the real race. Just because your skin is white doesnt mean you are white. Greeks, Italians, Canadians etc all have white skin BUT they are different nationalities. As for MY race, I am mixed. Skin is white but blood is mixed. Like MOST AMERICANS. As for why do I need help from DSS, being a diabetic since childhood I can not get insurance to HELP pay my medical bills and medication. I could get on disability if I quit my job but I don't believe in doing that. I am able-bodies and hard working. Not lazy.

@clearblueeyes. I am an insurance agent who has clients that work at DSS. I visit them on a routine basis. I see people of all races there. Black, white, Indian, and Mexican. They are all receiving aid in some way, shape, or form. You say white people have nothing in this country. As I recall, whites took this country from the Indians. You say blacks and Indians have their own stuff. Comeon, how many jobs, communities, colleges, and schools cater to only whites? Be for real. Hollywood, the music industry, in fact most of the successful companies in America are owned and operated by whites. Now as for what you said about hard working decent people. If a person is able-bodied and hardworking, regardless of race, what need do they have for DSS?

They are the ones who came to America and "took" the Indians land. White folks are the dominat race here and they all think they are better than the rest of us-as you have stated!

I'd like to clear something up Mrs Bell. White ppl are the last ones DSS will help. DSS will only help a white person if they are trash. DSS will only help a white person if she is laying up with every Tom, Dick and Harry and plopping out babies left and right. They WILL NOT help a hard working decent white person. I know this from experience. All we ask for is help, Notice I said HELP paying for some medication for a diabetic adult. But NO, they said they could only help if she were a single parent or single and pregnant. Well this adult has more respect then to lay down and plop out babies just to get assistance. What it all boils down to is WHITE ppl in this country get NOTHING. The blacks have their stuff for only blacks, indians have their stuff for only indians and the mexicans have everything from the US government that belongs to Americans but Americans can't get. So what do the WHITE ppl have... NOTHING.

WHY go to DSS or the tribe either? THEY don't have the money. Go over to Purnee The Pilferer's or RoseManure's and dig in the back yard. THERE is where the money went. And so far, they've gotten clean away with it.

Please let me chime in. You mean to tell me that all the Native Americans I have seen at DSS are not getting help from DSS. If that being the case, why go. On any given day you can find more than your fair share of Native Americans at DSS (not employees, either) so why would you say only Blacks, Whites, and Mexicans are being served.

Well, Mrs. Bell, this is what you get when free stuff is handed out to people based on race.... This also is another sneaky way to again make indians hate whites, since they can't get help from DSS..."can't get help from the white man if you're indian", simple. The reason why is because the tribe demanded their own "DSS/government" money so "they" could be givin credit for "helping our people". Now they've blown the money and are in need of, must I say, "the white mans money".

These guidelines were pulled from the N.C. Department of Social Services web site and HUDs website. As you can see, the Tribe has a certain income guideline to adhere to that it higher than the D.S.S. Therefore, if the Tribe denies someone, 9 times out of 10 it's because they were probably under income. It's costs more to own a home that to receive free food stamps...This is why sometimes the tribe will send you to the D.S.S. and sometimes D.S.S. will send you to the tribe. It's about income....

Although Ms. Bell never said "why or what services were needed." Like many I can understand their frustration with the Lumbee Tribal Government. I have seen the same exact people go in there two and three times a year and get services. I have seen a mother and her children sit in the dark for sometime because they had a Tuscarora card and not a Lumbee one. I thought the money the tribe gets is for all Native American in this area. Would someone inform the Federal Government that "there are more than Lumbees in Robeson County." So, what if they belong to another tribe. They are still Native Americans and this is money they are entitled to if they need it.

I can tell you myself that I was certified to get that "fuel check" by DSS but when it came to the Lumbee tribe I was TURNED DOWN. Anyone who thinks these agencies are "playing by the same rules are dumber than a box of rocks."

The Lumbee "Travel" Council is in Oregon this week. Are any workers from DSS out there? There are people who are on Disability on the Travel Council going all over the country. If you can Travel, you can WORK!

No, there is nothing fair about the way the Lumbees are being treated. I think the government should make the Lumbees send the money back to DSS (at least they are FAIR).

To turn someone away and not let them fill out and application and send them to the tribe is like sending them BACK TO THE BALCONY OF THE CAROLINA THEATER....we do not need to repeat ourselves. Things were much better when DSS handled these funds.

I know about this because I use to work at the tribe years ago and I've dealt with people who were sent to me from the D.S.S. Basically the 2 entities have to adhere to the same government guidelines so if one denies you, technically, you are denied at the other automatically. The only reason why the tribe would send an "Indian" over there is because the D.S.S. does have some programs that are either below or above the income criteria that the Tribe has to adhere to and sometimes you may be able to get help, "technically"...However, you are right, with the influx of illegals in Robeson County, there isn't much money left for the citizens and if you are an Indian in Robeson County the D.S.S. will direct you to the Tribe first without even letting you fill out an application just to get you out of their face for another day. Trust me, if your friend was asked to go there, she didn't qualify under HUD's strict (audited) guidelines the Tribe has to adhere to, "not enough or too much income, felony the last 10 yrs, etc." Unfortunately it takes a certain amount of income to pay for and keep a house up. That's why the government sets these guidelines. There is no such thing as "Free Government Housing" and people in Robeson County don't understand that yet.
