A fuel pump on a vehicle apparently tipped over on a vehicle in a Red Springs automotive business about a mile south of town Thursday morning, causing a fire that gutted about 75 percent of the building.

Fire departments from Red Springs and Shannon were called to Stanley’s Automotive Repair at 1010 West Third Avenue (across from the Jiffy Stop) about 9:45 a.m. that morning to attempt to extinguish the blaze.

According to Stanely, four cars were in the building at the time of the blaze and all were destroyed.

He stated that his son attempted to put out the fire himself, but ran out of the building when he saw that the fire could not be contained.

In business for about eight years, he is now out of business but does plan to rebuild at some point in time.
