Acting Red Springs Police chief Troy McDuffie has released information, telling that two arrests have been made in an apparent drive-by shooting at a location on West Fourth Avenue in Red Springs.

On the afternoon of Thursday, December 7, at about 5:46 p.m., Richard Stubbs, 16, of 413 West Fourth Avenue and Eric Conley, 20, of 604 West Fourth, were struck by buckshot. Mr. Stubbs was hit in the back several times and Mr. Conley was struck in the face. The two victims were transported to Southeastern Regional Medical Center where they were treated for their wounds.

According to witnesses that afternoon, a rust-colored Neon drove by the two and they were shot by a shotgun.

After an investigation by RSPD detectives, two individuals have been arrested in the shooting.

Arrested and charged were Waleid Khalid Sassim Hamoudt, 19 of 719 Cope Road, Red Springs, and Joshua Sanchez Winston, 18, of 311 Branch Road, Red Springs.

The men were both charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

Both were booked and taken to the Robeson County Detention Center in Lumberton where they were both placed under a $45,000 secured bond.

Chief McDuffie stated that the shooting may have been related to an apparent robbery that took place earlier that afternoon.
