A few more details have been released in an unrelated murder in Lumberton on Saturday. Branch said Morris Johnson, 47, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, Geraldine Stephens, who was 39. Branch said Johnson is the father of Stephens’ twin 14-year-old sons.
Branch said Stephens was found dead inside her car that was parked in her driveway about 5 a.m. Stephens lived at 590 Boone Road. Branch said Stephens was shot once at point-blank range.
After the shooting, Johnson, who lives on N.C. 20 in St. Pauls, called the Lumberton Police Department and asked that an officer meet him at his sister’s home on Park Street in Lumberton.
An officer picked Johnson up at an intersection and drove him to Park Street. According to the sheriff’s report, Johnson confessed to killing Stephens. Investigators haven’t found the murder weapon.
Johnson is in the Robeson County jail under no bond.
