Mt. Pelier Presbyterian Church, Rowland, is sponsoring the 2008 Baby Contest and plate sale on July 19.

“An Overcoming Family,” a presentation by the Prospect UMC Post High will be July 20 and 27 and Aug. 3 at Prospect United Methodist Church. The services will start at 7 p.m.
A Ten Commandments Service is July 20 at 4 p.m. at McCormick Chapel Church, 215 Main Street, Lumberton.
There will be various speakers who will talk about each of the commandments. The First Baptist Church Men’s Choir will sing during the service.
The United Order of Salem, Hope of Fairmont No. 170, will have its annual Thanksgiving service on July 20 at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Fairmont. The Rev. Ruby Lennon will be the speaker.
Mill Branch Baptist Church will host Holy Convocation services at 7 p.m. on July 22-23. Dr. T.R. Murray and the choir of First Baptist Church, Lumberton, and First Baptist Church, Fairmont, will be special guests on July 22.
Dr. Shedrick Byrd and the choir from Sandy Grove Baptist Church, Lumberton, and Ebenezar Baptist Church, Marietta, will be the guests on July 23.
New Jerusalem Holiness Church will have a three-night Bible study in the book of Romans on July 23-25. The Bible study will begin at 7:30 each evening, and will be led by the Rev. Mike Cummings.

Saint James AME Zion Church, 116 West Brown Ave., Red Springs will have Victory services July 24-25 at 7 p.m.
Elderess Pamela McDonald of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church will be Thursday night’s speaker. Dr. David Patterson of Southern Grove Baptist Church, Rowland will be the guest speaker on Friday.
Other guests will include God’s Sons of South Carolina, Blessed Foundations of St. Pauls, Michelle Clark Ministries and area choirs.
On July 26 the church’s Youth Department will sponsor a mime ministry concert. The Spiritual Messengers of Franklin Chapel AME Zion Church, Laurinburg, and The Mind Changers of St. John AME Zion Church, Fayetteville, will participate in the program.
The church’s 140th Homecoming Celebration will be Aug. 10, beginning with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., followed by the worship service at 11.
The North Carolina Conference Lay Organization will meet at 10 a.m. on July 26 at Mt. Calvary AME Church, Navassa.
Plans for the annual lay picnic and report from the 2008 General Conference will be discussed.

Beauty Spot United Methodist Church will present a workshop on the Senior Health Insurance Program on Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. The workshop is sponsored by the Older Adult Ministry, and will be conducted by the N.C. Department of Insurance.
Information on Medicare, Medicare supplements, prescription plans and long-term care insurance will be covered. A professional aide will be available for persons needing assistance. Help will be offered on how to recognize billing errors and how to prevent fraud and abuse.

CONFERENCES
A “Save Our Youth” event, a conference for adults and children at St. John AME Church, Fairmont, will be July 23-25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Topics of discussion will include: school dropouts, criminals, gangs, disrespect for authority, ways to stop the trend of destruction, what the Bible teaches and adults’ responsibilities toward youth.

ANNIVERSARIES
The deacons and trustees of Pentecostal United Holy Church will celebrate their anniversary on July 20 at 5 p.m. Bishop Harry Lee and the choir of Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ, Rowland, will be the guests.
The church’s ushers will celebrate their 37th anniversary on July 27 at 4 p.m. Minister Sharon Butler will be the guest speaker, and music will be presented by guest choirs.

PASTOR’S AIDE
The Pastor’s Aide Committee at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Fairmont, will sponsor a car wash, yard sale and plate sale on July 26 at the church.
The car wash will begin at 8 a.m., and the plate sale starts at 10. Fried and barbecued chicken plates will be available for a donation of $5 each. Hot dogs will also be available for $1 each.
