LUMBERTON — A Lumberton Junior High School teacher was found not guilty in District Court Friday of assaulting a female student last spring.
According to paperwork filed at the Robeson County Courthouse, Kenneth McIver of Fayetteville was accused of “slamming a ball” into the hands of the student, “causing a hand to bend backward.”
McIver was not suspended for the May 30 incident, but a letter of reprimand was placed in his file, according to Al Kahn, spokesman for the Public Schools of Robeson County.
Kahn said he spoke with school Principal Gary Patrick, who said that McIver had returned to the classroom and was teaching on the first day of school Monday.
The complaint was filed by Sherry Johnson on behalf of her daughter Kelcie.
