ST. PAULS — The Sheriff’s Office is awaiting the results of an autopsy that will determine what killed a St. Pauls man whose body was found Thursday inside his home. Those results could come as early as today.

Sheriff’s Detective Howard Branch did not want to release the name of the man, but said he was 61 years old, black, and appeared to live alone at his home on Britt Road.

According to Branch, neighbors found the man’s body in a bedroom after they went to his home to check on him because they had not seen him since Aug. 21. Branch said investigators could not determine if anyone had broken into the home.

The autopsy, which is being done at the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill, is expected to determine if the man died of natural causes or because of violence.
