Payment program deadline is Sept. 30
LUMBERTON — Agricultural producers have until Sept. 30 to sign up for the 2008-crop Direct and Counter-cyclical Payment Program.
Giles B. Floyd, county executive director for the Robeson/Scotland USDA-FSA office, said farmers and growers can sign up by visiting a USDA Farm Service Agency office, or by using the online DCP service.
Direct payments are tied to acreage bases and yields. Counter-cyclical payments provide support counter to the cycle of market prices as part of a safety net in the event of low crop prices.
Last year the Robeson/Scotland USDA-FSA office issued more than $8.5 million through the program. To sign up online, go to www.fsa.usda.gov.
