Kernis Lee Hammonds, 68, of 142 Solomon Road, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Southeastern Hospice House.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Evergreen Holiness Church, the Revs. Willie Jacobs Jr., James Bullard Jr. and Stevie Blue officiating. Burial will follow in Oxendine cemetery in Lumberton.

Hammonds loved his family and was a great mechanic. He enjoyed the race track, fishing and hunting with his “Buddies.”

Kernis was preceded in death by his wife, Ludahlia Cummings Hammonds; and his parents, Ruthie Jane and Carlie Hammonds.

Surviving are two daughters, Charlene Hammonds and Sandra Graham, both of the home; a grandson, Lee Daniel Wilkerson of Lumberton; three granddaughters, Danyell Wilkerson and Cassandra Wilkerson, both of Lumberton, and Emerald Ludahlia Hammonds of the home; a great-grandson, Landon Locklear; two brothers, James E. Hammonds of Wakulla and Carl V. Hammonds of Red Springs; a sister, Gennell H. McMillan, of Shannon; many nephews and nieces; and a host of relatives and friends.
