LUMBERTON — A Lumberton woman was found dead in her home Monday afternoon, and police are investigating her death as a homicide.

According to Lumberton police Capt. Johnny Barnes, Pamela Locklear Chavis was found by a neighbor in her home at Lot 57 in Turner Mobile Home Park on Pearl Road between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Monday.

The cause of death is not known, and the body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy. Barnes said it’s likely that she was killed.

“We’re treating it as a homicide investigation,” he said. “… It’s kind of sketchy at the moment.”

Barnes did not want to release additional details, including the injuries the woman suffered or the condition of the home.

Chavis, who lived alone, was in her mid- to late-30s, Barnes said. She was last seen sometime Friday.

No arrests have been made.

This is sure to be a right dangerous THING and should be shot on sight. This is NOT the way to kill somebody in Robeson County. The THING is so demented it forgot to set the place on fire. It can probably plead "insanity" for forgetting to fire the place up and get off with just probation.

When you murder someone in Robeson County, you're REQUIRED to set the place on fire too, right?
