D.J. Mason was too much for St. Pauls to handle, as he poured in 33 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to anchor West Bladen’s 61-50 non-conference win over the Bulldogs.

After trailing by a slim 27-26 count at halftime, St. Pauls (3-10, 2-0) couldn’t keep up with Mason and the Knights (11-5, 4-1) in the second half.

Deion Gilchrist was the Bulldogs’ lone double-digit scorer with 10 points. Antonio Henderson chipped in nine.

Swett swept by Richmond

Richmond’s 8-0 run to open the fourth quarter doomed the Purnell Swett boys in their 65-51 Southeastern Conference loss on the road.

The Rams (9-4, 1-1) and Raiders (11-1, 1-1) went blow for blow in the first half as Richmond held a 29-26 edge at intermission.

The Raiders began pulling away thanks to 15-point outings from Josh Calhoun and Jordan Richardson. Just Glenn added 13.

Juwan Jones’ team-high 15 points led the Rams. James Chavis and Tyrell McDonald chipped in 11 each.

On the girls side, Swett was outscored by 18 in the second half of its 54-34 setback to Richmond.

The two teams were deadlocked at 17-all after the first half.

Tiara Ellerbe’s game-high 19 points paced the Raiders (10-2, 2-0).

The Rams (8-5, 0-2) were led by Alysa Hunt and Kayla Lewis, who netted 11 and 10 points, respectively.
