LUMBERTON — Police on Tuesday recovered the car belonging to a Lumberton woman who they believe was murdered in her home.

According to Lumberton police Capt. Johnny Barnes, the white 2005 Dodge Neon belonging to Pamela Locklear Chavis was found by police about 3 p.m. Tuesday. Barnes would not disclose details about the car’s location but said it did not appear to be damaged.

A neighbor, after seeing a door ajar at Chavis’ home at Turner Mobile Home Park on Monday afternoon, found the 42-year-old’s body. Investigators believe she may have been dead for up to two days.

Chavis was last seen alive sometime on Friday.

The cause of death is not known, but the case is being treated as a homicide, Barnes said. Chavis’ body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
