LUMBERTON — Police have charged a Lumberton man with the stabbing death of a woman whose body was found Monday in her home.
Larry Junior Jacobs, 32, of 190 Starlight Drive, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder and placed in the Robeson County jail without bond, according to Lumberton police Capt. Johnny Barnes.
Jacobs is accused in the death of Pamela Locklear Chavis, 42, whose body was found by a neighbor in her home on Monday at Lot 57 in Turner Mobile Home Park. She had died from “multiple stab wounds,” Barnes said.
Jacobs apparently knew Chavis.
“He was familiar with her,” Barnes said. “They were not related and they were not even friends, but he was familiar with who she was.”
Barnes didn’t want to guess at a motive, but said, “We do know there were some items missing from the house. We’re still in the process of trying to recover them.”
A neighbor found Chavis’ body after seeing a door to her home ajar Monday afternoon, Barnes said. Investigators believe she may have been dead for up to two days.
Chavis was last seen alive sometime Friday.
Chavis’ white 2005 Dodge Neon was missing from her home Monday but was recovered late Tuesday in a mobile home park in the Jamestown community, Barnes said.
City Councilman John Cantey, whose Precinct 5 includes the mobile home park where Chavis lived, said Chavis’ death was a “rare incident,” and the first violent crime to take place in the park in 10 years of operation, “and hopefully the last.”
“It’s a relief to the citizens in the South Lumberton community and to the citizens of the mobile home park to know that someone is off the streets who committed such an act,” he said. “As councilman, I appreciate our local law enforcement and the SBI working day and night to get that murder solved.”
The State Bureau of Investigation is part of the investigation, which is ongoing.
This man murdered a woman. Plain and simple. Yes he is a person but he also took the life of another person. Yes look at his eyes. Does he look like the kind of guy who would give a crap about anyone else? Maybe the victim thought at one time that he was a decent person but look what happened to her. Why is it that so many people want to defend these killers in our society? Its bad enough my hard earned money has to be used to defend, house, and feed this scum but still our school system can't even keep its teachers employed. And Percy doesn't have a screwed up life. It's people like this who screw up the lives of others by cutting them short. How would you feel if this woman had been your mother, sister, aunt or child? Get a grip.
