LUMBERTON — Lumberton firefighters have new digs thanks to generous community members.

The department has had a makeover in recent months with the donation of lamps, end tables, a television, bed spreads, pots and pans and more as part of a project headed by Bonnie Biggs.

Most recent is the donation of new kitchen countertops, a sink, a faucet, stove tops, an oven and a tabletop. The labor for the projects is being done by firemen, but money came from local donors, the Lumberton Volunteer Firefighters Association, and the city of Lumberton.

“We’re getting a facelift and everybody is contributing,” said Fire Chief Paul Ivey.

More than $12,000 has been raised for the projects.
