To the Editor,

I want to thank The Robesonian in a deeply heartfelt way for writing the editorial on Dr. Dalton Brooks entitled “Lost Leader” that was published on Jan. 18.

Two days of listening to persons at both the wake and the funeral for Dr. Brooks confirmed my sense of the special quality of Dalton’s spirit, life, and contribution. He lived in love and stepped forward to serve our Robeson County community when he was asked by others to do so. He was not a self-promoting type of community leader. As one person said of Dalton: “When he talked with you, no matter where you were or what you were doing, he always made you feel that you were the most important person in the world.”

I also want to pass on that Dalton’s family members were also very appreciative of The Robesonian article and editorial. I thanked them for sharing Dalton with us in the community. People often don’t recognize the sacrifices that family members make when a family member is a public servant. Thanks again for your recognition, sensitivity, and competency in describing Dr. Dalton Brooks’s unique leadership and contribution to our county.

The Rev. Mac Legerton

Pembroke
