Edward Burney

Edward R. Burney, 68, of Valparaiso and St. James Plantation, passed away April 4, 2012, at Saint Mary Medical Center.

The funeral for Edward will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart with the Rev. David Nykamp officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.

Edward was born Feb. 2, 1944, in Lumberton, and moved to Hobart, Indiana over 50 years ago. Edward married Susan Conrad on July 17, 1965 in Glen Park. He was employed at Ford Motor Co. in Chicago Heights and was a member of the UAW. While his children were growing up Edward enjoyed coaching little league baseball and youth basketball. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved father-in-law, Lowell A. Conrad.

Edward is survived by his wife, Susan; two sons, Kevin (Laura) Burney of Hopkinton, Mass. and Ryan (Anne) Burney of Avon, Ind.; four grandchildren, Madison, Michael, Joseph and Griffin Burney; mother, Evelyn Hill of Fairmont; a brother; eight sisters; and other loving family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel or online at www.reesfuneralhomes.com.

Elijah Taylor Jr., died April 4, 2012, in Highland Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hazy Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Hamer, S.C., Pastor Larry McCallum officiating. Burial will follow in Taylor Cemetery in Fairmont.

Redy Bell “Mamie” Jones, 84, of 390 Square Lane, died April 4, 2012, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Boles Funeral Home Chapel in Red Springs, the Revs. Hedrick Jones and Gary Deese officiating. Burial will follow in Jones family cemetery.

Surviving are two sons, David Jones and Harvey Jones of Shannon; two daughter, Rosie Jones and Alicia Jones, both of Shannon; a sister, Mary Jones of Pembroke; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
