Would a mother appreciate a gift of items stolen from grave?

To the Editor,

Recently my children purchased several items for Mother’s Day to be placed on the gravesite of Betty J. Hammond Haats at S.A. Hammond cemetery on Rennert Road. After placement we returned about two hours later and found everything had been removed from the grave.

What I have to say is their mother was thankful for her children’s thoughts we have no doubt in our minds. However, what we are wondering is if your mother or wife would appreciate receiving these items knowing they were ill gotten?

Now if your were that desperate that you had to get these items in this manner, a phone call to us, we are in the phone directory, would have caused us to help you.

But again, we are sorry for your loss and hope your mind is satisfied but what about hers, or is this how she taught you to succeed? For the next time, if there is unfortunately one, please have the gratitude to at least leave a thank-you note.

You have our sympathy.
