State needs to reverse decision to take DMV office from Beasleys

To the Editor,

I opened my Sunday paper and there it was on the front page, another example of our state turning its back on us here in Robeson County. The Beasley family has been an icon in this community for more than 30 years running the DMV office. They always provided great service, courteous smiles and warm welcomes to everyone who walked through their doors.

And now not only do they have to grieve over the loss of a wonderful mother, but both children have to deal with the loss of their job that they have done for more than 25 years. In today’s economy and job market, what is a person supposed to do? Where is loyalty to our community? How can some outsiders make life-altering decisions that affect the entire community?

This decision shows the lack of respect for others. It is time for Mr. Mike Robertson to take control of his office and find someone to make decisions that are based on what is right. I agree with Mr. Pridgen that this is an apparent disregard of the law. These people did nothing wrong. They served our community with pride, loyalty and were a cornerstone of our community. How can someone so callous take that away?

Let Mr. Thomas have another office in Pembroke or St. Pauls or anywhere other than here. It is time that we take control of our community. Pick up your pen and write. Let them hear from us. We owe it to ourselves and to our community. The address is: N.C. DMV State Office, Mr. Mike Robertson, 1100 New Bern Ave., Raleigh, N.C. 27609.

I'm sorry, are we talking about the same office? Great service, courteous smiles and warm welcomes..those must have been reserved for friends and family. The office needs alot of updates such as: extended hours and maybe opening on Saturday once a month(most people work until 5 and don't work downtown L'ton) and either an ATM machine or get a credit card machine. They had 30 years to make changes, sorry to hear about their Mother but they had their shot.

Politeness is not on their list of services to the general public.

Let's face it. If the children would've been so polite and courteous there would be a public outcry. The children just didn't have what it took to run that office. That's why they are leaving. Hopefully, someone will learn something from this when they enter into the workforce.
