PEMBROKE — Police are seeking information in a Sunday morning shooting that left a teenager and a 26-year-old man injured, Pembroke’s interim Police Chief Sebastian Veneziano said on Monday.
Christopher Crump, 19, of Benjamin Road in Maxton, was shot once in the stomach and Jimothy Locklear, of Evergreen Church Road in Pembroke, was shot once in the arm at about 1:30 a.m. at the Jeco Kwik Stop on 610 Union Chapel Road, Veneziano said. Crump and Locklear were taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center by ambulance; Crump is in stable condition, and Locklear was treated and released, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Veneziano said it is unclear why the shooting occurred, and that investigators are “getting a bunch of different stories.”
“Right now, we’re just looking for the public’s help,” Veneziano said.
A call about shots being fired was made to the Police Department just after officers had just left the store after attempting to clear out the parking lot, which had remained crowded following the Lumbee Homecoming parade and fireworks display on Saturday evening, according to Veneziano.
“There was heavy traffic,” Veneziano said. “We were running cars out and charging people until about 3 a.m. Just about every car you spotted had some kind of violation.”
