County manager story provided icing, but not the cake’s ingredients

To the Editor,

I read the profile on the new county manager, Mr. Ricky Harris, written by Mr. Bob Shiles. I am wondering if Mr. Shiles was only looking at the icing on the cake. He surely missed out on the ingredients used to make the cake.

Normally, if someone other than the person is doing the mixing, then the person claiming the results is a fraud. I believe reporting any issues or newsworthy comments should be for the best interest of the people, and not trying to manipulate the people by fluffing the pillows. It is my understanding that a degree was given to the recipient earlier than due season because the job was being kept for Mr. Harris for the past two years so that he would qualify on paper for the county manager position.

Is competition a thing of the past? Are people afraid to compete for positions? My answers are yes it is, and yes they are. Watch and see the county go downhill because of those handout positions. A big, big mess is ahead.

Unfair and unethical to hold a taxpayer funded position like that. The mess of political favors, xenophobia, and racial ideology in this county strikes again.

This county is notorious for this kind of travesty. Not only is it county government but also the school system. The river runs deep from assistant superintendants all the way down to the custodian positions. Those of you in the know saw superintendant Johnny Hunt hire several of his old high school and life-long friends as his assistants as soon as he got the job. This is facts. Check the roster of his class at Pembroke Sr. High and cross reference the top positions at the board. What do you see? Robeson County is a joke. Good advice to parents of high school graduates, buy your child a one way airline ticket to their chosen destination and tell them to never look back.
