All good things must come to an end, including the Summer Reading Programs. A final performance and awards ceremony will conclude a summer filled with reading, writing, stories, songs, crafts, movies and more.
Children will be captivated by Fish the Magish and his magic show on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Lumberton at the Osterneck Auditorium and 2 p.m. in Pembroke. The show is free and children will be treated to face painting.
An awards ceremony will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Lumberton at the Osterneck Auditorium. Children and teens who completed their reading logs are invited to attend, along with their parents, to be recognized for their achievements and receive their prize bag.
Children and teens who participated in the short story contests are also encouraged to attend the ceremony. Winners of the short story contests will be announced during the ceremony and the winners will receive a certificate and a prize. If a child or teen who completed their reading log is unable to attend, their prize bag will be available for them to pick up at their local library the following week.
Give yourself a zombie makeover and shamble to the library’s garden for a zombie walk. Take a stab at Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance and enjoy light refreshments. The zombie walk, which is for teens only, will be on Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. Scary zombies will be lurking, and parents are advised that this program is not suitable for children. Teens may arrive earlier at 6 p.m. for the zombie lock-in, where they will receive a terrifying zombie makeover. The teen zombie lock-in is the final “Own the Night” program. Teens are encouraged to wear an old T-shirt as becoming a zombie can be messy.

Children are invited to the Summer Fun Day on Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. We will play games in the library’s garden, eat ice cream and kids may expect to get a little bit wet. It is the perfect way to spend the last Friday before school starts the following week.
Story times will resume the first week of September. A schedule with times, dates, and locations will be announced in August.
