LUMBERTON — Southeastern Hospice is looking for volunteers who are willing to travel to the homes of patients to visit while the family takes a break, encourage and support the caregiver through conversation and affirmation, deliver meals and other food, and perform light chores.
Volunteer opportunities are also available at Southeastern Hospice House and include answering phones and directing visitors, caring for the aquarium and bird feeders, and keeping the family kitchen and gathering areas clean and in order.
The course includes four weeks of intense training beginning Sept. 4 and continuing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings through Sept. 27. Classes will be held from 6:30 until 9 p.m. at Southeastern Hospice, which is located at 2002 N. Cedar Street in Lumberton.
To register for the training sessions, which are mandatory to become a volunteer, contact Southeastern Hospice Volunteer Program Leader Sheryl Taylor at (910) 735-8915 or taylor25@srmc.org.
