FAIRMONT — A checkpoint set up on N.C. 41 during the weekend resulted in 70 citations, according to Maj. David Windom of the Fairmont Police Department.
Eight people were arrested for outstanding warrants at the checkpoint near Industrial Drive, Windom said. Six people were charged with driving while impaired and one person was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and cocaine possession.
The checkpoint, part of the state-initiated Booze It or Loose It Campaign, was manned by police officers from Fairmont, Lumberton, Red Springs and Maxton, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office and the state Highway Patrol.
