LUMBERTON — Army National Guard Pfc. Taylor A. Mabe graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

During training, which lasted nine months, Mabe studied the Army mission, history, tradition, core values and physical fitness. He received instruction and practice in basic combat skills such as military weapons; chemical warfare and bayonet training; drill and ceremony; marching; rifle marksmanship; armed and unarmed combat; map reading; field tactics; military courtesy; basic first aid; foot marches and field training exercises.

Mabe is the son of Tony Mabe of Onaga, Kan., and nephew of Cecil Mabe of Lumberton.

He is a 2007 graduate of Onaga High School.
