PEMBROKE — A 59-year-old Lumberton man died on Tuesday when he was thrown from his moped after it was struck by a pickup truck at an intersection, according to the state Highway Patrol.
Lee Dallas Brooks, of 543 Lumbee Ave., was traveling south on Tracey Sampson Road about four miles east of Pembroke at about 4:40 p.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a 2011 Ford that was traveling west on Deep Branch Road, according to 1st Sgt. Ardeen Hunt.
Brooks, who was wearing a helmet, was taken by ambulance to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where he later died, Hunt said. The driver of the truck, 29-year-old Marie Michelle Chavis Locklear, of Union School Road in Rowland, was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries, Hunt said.
The truck was traveling 44 mph in the 55-mph zone, Hunt said.
