RED SPRINGS — Blake Greene threw for five touchdowns on 14-of-19 passing for 291 yards, anchoring Red Springs to a 54-0 rout of North Moore on Friday at “The Inferno” in Red Springs.

The Red Devils (3-1) jumped out to a 20-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

“It isn’t about scoring points, it’s about executing,” Red Springs head coach George Coltharp said. “We still made some big plays, don’t get me wrong, but we didn’t do a great job of executing.”

Nevertheless, Greene picked apart the North Moore (0-4) defense as he feed his primary targets JuJu Brown and Zach Leach. Brown finished with seven grabs for 167 yards and three touchdowns while Leach hauled in five catches for 106 yards and two scores. Brown added to his highlight reel with 65-yard punt return for a touchdown.

On the ground, Greene rushed for 64 yards on five carries. Jedarian Lesane took four carries 55 yards.

Rams fall to New Hanover in rout

WILMINGTON — New Hanover’s Trevon Brown is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound wide receiver who runs the 40 in 4.4 seconds. He’s being recruited by serious Division I schools from all across the country, and on Friday night at Legion Stadium he showed why he’s in such demand.

The New Hanover senior scored five touchdowns in the first half, added a sixth early in the third quarter and dominated the game from several positions. Unbeaten New Hanover bounced back from a lackluster effort a week earlier by pounding Purnell Swett, 56-19.

The Rams (1-3) were even at 7-7 early in the first after Andrew Hill rushed in a 59-yard touchdown. But the tie was short-lived. New Hanover went on a 19-6 run to end the quarter in its favor at 27-13. Thomas Hunt hauled in a 44-yard touchdown grabb from Jeremiah Swett. It was all New Hanover from there en route to the 56-19 final. Hill finished with 96 rushing yards on eight carries. Swett threw for 117 yards on 8-of-18 passing.

South Robeson’s streaks ends

ROWLAND — Going for its third straight win in nearly a decade, South Robeson came up short in a 30-24 loss to Southern Lee on Friday night. The Mustangs, who gritted to a 0-0 first half, pulled in front with a 16-14 lead through three quarters.

After Southern Lee scored back-to-back touchdowns, South Robeson (2-2) found the scoreboard on a 44-yard run from Deshawn Hamilton and a 1-yard plunge from Daquinn Lindsay. Southern Lee, however, clawed back ahead in the fourth with consecutive touchdown runs from Aaron Blockman, who finished with a game-high 137 yards, and South Robeson didn’t have enough left in the tank to counter.

Hamilton led the Mustang rushers with 91 yards on 11 carries and Lindsay threw for 104 yards on 7-of-15 passing.
