Staff report

LUMBERTON — A 20-year-old Lumberton man now faces two felony charges after he fled from a single-vehicle accident that killed a Pembroke man and injured three others, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Jimmy Earl Robeson, of 2401 Barker Ten Mile Road, was arrested on Friday and is charged with felony death by motor vehicle and felony hit and run in the Sept. 2 wreck that killed 20-year-old Caleb Brett Cummings, of Pembroke. Robeson’s bond on those charges was $11,000 .

Robeson was initially charged with DWI, careless and reckless driving, no operator’s licence and a seat-belt violation by Trooper S.C. Hunt. The additional charges were handed down from the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office, according to 1st Sgt. Ardeen Hunt.

Cummings died after being thrown from the 2003 Chevrolet that Robeson was driving when it overturned and struck a ditch at 2:44 a.m., according to a Highway Patrol report. Cummings was taken by ambulance to Southeastern Regional Medical Center along with Kayla Leeanne Bell, 20, of 5417 W. McDuffie Crossing Road in Lumberton, who was treated and released.

Robeson and another passenger, 21-year-old Shyan Deseray Bell, left the accident on foot and later arrived at the hospital, where they were also treated, Hunt said. Bell was charged with a seat-belt violation.

The owner of the vehicle, Kristy Ann Oxendine, 27, of 3575 Shannon Road, Shannon, was charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing; aiding and abetting; allowing a vehicle to be operated with no insurance; and allowing someone to operate the vehicle with no operator’s license, Hunt said. Oxendine reported the vehicle stolen after the accident, according to the patrol.

She is out of jail on a $1,000 bond.

Caleb was my cousin and its a shame he is gone due to ignorance of another person. begging him to stop the vehicle & let someone else drive. then to leave him after they wreck. what is the world coming to. i just dont understand anymore. Caleb has a two month old baby girl that will never know her father because of jimmy. He needs to spend alot of years in prison for the death of Caleb. We are fighting for your justice. GOON TO SOON. WE LOVE YOU CALEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!REST IN PEACE NIKKI**

And another one dies at the hand of a DRUNK BEHIND THE WHEEL. And walks free on $ll,000 bond. The ONLY winner will be some court appointed scumbag (spit) lawyer that "defends" the THING. And it'll be right back on the highways of Robeson County. It might even kill YOU and your family next time. Should have just shot it on the spot I say.
