Between the numbers: Red Devils, Bulldogs keep rolling

Ever wonder what doesn’t make the box score or fit in the game story? Here’s a few ‘quick hits’ from the area’s six prep football programs after Week 4.
- St. Pauls’ offense continued its dominance this season in Friday’s win over West Bladen, especially in the second quarter. The Bulldogs scored a season-high 32 points on 22 snaps and picked up 340 yards of offense. Right guard Shayron Jones had the frame’s best highlight after flattening a West Bladen cornerback to spring Shawn Williams’ second touchdown of the first half, a 38-yarder at the seven-minute mark.
- Oh, those tricky Red Devils. Red Springs executed an onside kick to perfection to open last week’s homecoming win over North Moore and scored the first of seven total touchdowns five plays later. Byron Locklear caught the high-bouncing kick in stride near midfield and from there, it was smooth sailing for the Red Devils.
- Daniel Robinson is having a senior season to remember for the 3-1 Lumberton Pirates. Robinson had his second four-touchdown game of the fall Friday against Seventy-First and helped his team to its second straight win. He’s averaging an eye-popping 7.9 yards per carry through four games.
- South Robeson had a strange outing with Southern Lee in Rowland as both teams combined for 54 points — all in the second half — of a back and forth affair. Both offenses had little production in the opening 24 minutes and went to the locker rooms with matching goose eggs at intermission.
- Unbeaten New Hanover built a 36-point lead in the first half against Purnell Swett behind 6-foot-3 wideout Trevon Brown. Brown opened the contest with a 90-yard kickoff return and scored four more times in the opening half during the Wildcats’ 56-19 victory. He reached the end zone for a sixth time early in the third quarter.
