Birthday celebration

for county is Thursday

LUMBERTON — Robeson County turns 225 years old this year and the county is planning a big celebration on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the new Department of Social Services complex at 120 Glenn Cowan Road.

Plans for the party include: free hamburgers and hot dogs; an antique tractor show; musical entertainment; activities for children; information booths; helicopters and a fire safety house. A time capsule will also be buried.

WMKL Radio will broadcast live.

Lt. Gov. Dalton to visit

county on Thursday

LUMBERTON — Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton, Democratic candidate for North Carolina governor, will visit Robeson County on Thursday.

He is scheduled to speak at the county’s 225th birthday party, being held at the Department of Social Services complex, at 4:30 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. appearance at the Southeastern North Carolina Agricultural Center.

At the agricultural center, the candidate will be available to answer questions concerning his gubernatorial candidacy.

The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be served.
