LUMBERTON — A Robeson County jailer who is the son of a county commissioner is the subject of an internal investigation following his resignation from that job, according to Sheriff Kenneth Sealey.

Sealey said he could not provide details about what the investigation concerns, but did confirm that 25-year-old Raymond Foy Cummings, who was classified as a Jailer 1, resigned on Friday. Cummings is the son of Raymond Cummings, who has been a county commissioner since 1996.

According to information provided by the county administration, the younger Cummings had worked at the county jail since Dec. 7, 2010. He was earning a year salary of $28,540.

Sealey was meeting with District Attorney Johnson Britt on Friday to determine if criminal charges would be brought against Cummings. Sealey said that he expected that the investigation would remain internal, and that he didn’t expect any decision on possible charges to be made on Friday.

The Robesonian attempted to reach Commissioner Cummings on Friday, but was unable to. A message that was left was not immediately returned.

In May, Cummings won re-election to a fifth term as the representative of District 5.

Ross you can make all the excuses you want, point made you and everyone else seem to cover up any crime committed by Indians, white, or other races, but just as soon as there is a black person in the paper you and the other racists in the county got so much to say, didnt hear you say anything bout church member(Indian by the way) raping the little girls. Besides you and others made this about race always quoting something about NAACP, so dnt get mad when its turned against you, hell if you dish it be able to take it, I actually said I wasnt going to speak on this but decided I would

OK I'm gonna take the approach that this one particular guy takes when the crime involves a black male. Hello Indian Tribal Council is anyone home, this seems to be happening pretty regular first glenn Maynoe jailers I thought we had cleaned up the sheriffs department, now since this guy is the son of a county commissioner lets see if daddy gets him out of this or let's him accept responsibility, but we all know daddy Raymond will protect his boy.

Two completely different organizations fighting two completely different agendas for two completely different races....

Tribe doesn't claim to be an organization to fight for racial INJUSTICE(GOD how i hate that stupid word).

Have you tried to reach the NAACP? Have you? They need to be alerted.

Oh yeah... "pretty regular"? Lets see smarty, The situation with Glen Maynor was nearly 10 years ago... and now again the jail is involved.. Yep, pretty regular.....

Look pal, instead of trying to justify the crime in your own community by hoping and looking for criminals of other races, get mad and do something about your own backyard before looking in your neighbors yard, or in this case across town.

tpsreport... Look, yall don't like it when "certain" words are used when referring to you, like: gang members, thugs, welfare recipient, welfare queen and so forth. So why do you think you can get away with "good ole boy"? Busted, nothing gets past me, I am a professional with these code words.....

Yep! I guess the son though he was untouchable. I'm sure it had to be pretty bad for him to "resign." At least the county won't have to pay him unemployment.

Seriously? If anyone knew what kind of hell hole it easy holding a job at a jail or prison they wouldn't be asking any questions. I worked the state prison for 5 months and resigned, all you are is a part time prisoner with less rights than the inmates. In there they get to set the rules and you sit back and take heat for trying to change them. I got in two fights and was mased accidently in my short time there. That job is for a select few and the money they pay is not near worth what you have to put up with.

First let me say I know what it's like to work in those conditions, I've been there. That doesn't give anyone the right to do something that would jeopardize the safety of their co-workers (ex. bringing in drugs, cigarettes, or other contraband). The money sucks and you fight almost every day. Not to mention the verbal abused one recieves. But at the end of the day you take pride in knowing that you protected someones home, child, and/or business from those you monitored. I respect you from recognizing you weren't cut out for the position, but the conditions doesn't mean you do anything illegal. Raymond's son has experience as a jailer, he will now become a police with Pembroke PD. I know Sealey is glad he is gone, for I'm sure he received special priviledges for who daddy was. Cummings stick to recruiting industry and leave the hard job of recruiting jailers to professionals. Who knows your son will probably be Sheriff during the next election.
